Earth came into existence 4.54 billion years ago. It is the only planet that is known so far to completely sustain life. The resources it provides makes it possible for lifeforms to exist. Earth has a balanced environment with proper air, water, temperature, sunlight, and food. We cannot imagine our life without the resources it provides. When earth was formed, and started sustaining life , nobody thought we would come to a point where the life forms would collapse within few decades.
As the humans advanced and made themselves as superior beings, and masters of the planet, the earth now has come to a point where it is devastated. We now may no longer call it a life-sustaining planet, or the blue planet as it has 70 percent of its surface as water, and now it has no longer remained a life-giving planet but a human manufactured planet, nor a blue planet because the water content is decreasing. The human population is increasing day by day, and with increasing population resources are decreasing and so are the other life forms, like flora and fauna. A recent study has revealed that within three to four decades the human population would collapse, as the pollution, deforestation, global warming is increasing, land areas are decreasing and earth would no longer be able to lift up the loads of the increasing population and meet their demands.
There’s a famous quote by Lester brown, ” we have not inherited this earth from our forefathers, we have borrowed it from our future generation. “ It is true, and we have to return them the land with all its comforts and facilities which we once fully exploited. But we have exploited the resources up to such an extent that we no longer would be able to offer our children with anything. We have to say our future generation sorry, for not giving them clean green earth.
Sorry, for not giving them pure air to breathe.
Sorry, for not providing them with a single meal of the day.
Sorry, for not giving them clean water to drink.
And I guess in times to come we have to say our future generation sorry, for not giving them birth.
Its need of the hour, that we should see our planet before our profit, our greed, and our selfishness. We have to stop exploiting every resource we find. We should stop the reckless cutting of trees, over usage of fossil fuels, driving vehicles, even for shorter distances and causing pollution. We have to realize if the resources once depleted, they are beyond repair. The earth took more than a billion years to form what it is giving us now and if we deplete it continuously, there will no longer be any life that could flourish for a billion decades.
Big protests, campaign are not required, we can be the change we want to see by making a small effort at our levels, like not using plastic and burning it, for shorter distances we can walk or use cycles rather cars or scooters, or we can share a single car or use public transport for longer distances rather using a car for each person alone. They say small efforts once made, leads to bigger changes. Afforestation, every time we can, that would control global warming. And stopping others for any kind of exploitation of resources they do and educating people in a way that they know the importance of the earth and its resources.
Earth has given us immense pleasures and protecting it and saving it is a way we can pay its price.
